Do I need to be a member of AABHE to attend RLI?

No, applicants do not need to be members of the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education (AABHE) to participate in RLI. However, membership in AABHE is strongly encouraged.

How can I pay the application fee?

Applicants can pay the fee by credit card, purchase order, or check.

Make checks payable to: American Association of Blacks in Higher Education or AABHE. In the memo field, please indicate: Applicant Name / Rising Leaders.

Do you accept institutional purchase orders?
Yes, please contact us at aabhe.lmi@gmail.com for details.

Can an invoice be automatically generated?
Yes. To receive an invoice, click on "Pay by Credit Card" to enter the AABHE payment portal. Input your contact information. Under Payment Information, select "Bill Me" (i.e., request an invoice). An invoice will be generated automatically that you can print. Additionally, the AABHE Financial Secretary will send an invoice within three business days.

Can I wait to pay the application fee after I am accepted?

No, only complete applications will be reviewed by the selection committee. A complete application includes the following: RLI Participant Application, Resume’/Vitae, and Payment of $150 Application Fee.

How soon will I hear whether I have been accepted?

Applicants should expect to hear of their status within a month of the application deadline via email. Applicants placed on a waiting list will receive an email indicating their wait list status.

Will you return my application fee if I am not accepted?

Yes, the application fee will be returned within 6 weeks of the application deadline.

How many applicants will be accepted?

The number of applicants selected to participate in the Institute varies depending on the applicant pool.

If I am not accepted in May, is there any possibility that I will be able to participate this year?

Possibly. Sometimes accepted applicants are unable to attend for various reasons. However, you will be contacted no later than May 28 if there is space available and to determine if you are still interested in attending the Institute.

If I am accepted to the Institute and confirm my acceptance but due to extenuating circumstances I am unable to attend, what should I do?

Accepted applicants must submit a refund request to the RLI Director (aabhe.lmi@gmail.com) no later than June 1. All refund requests received by the deadline will be reviewed and processed within one week. Refunds are subject to an administrative fee of $50.

Will I have time to do work such as email, fax, conference calls, etc.?

There may be some required reading or other activities required prior to and during RLI. Specific information about required reading and/or activities will be provided upon acceptance.

Is the orientation on June 7 mandatory and will I be required to do any work prior to the Institute?

All participants are required to attend a 90 minute orientation session on Tuesday, June 7 at 4:00pm, ET.

There may be some required reading or completion of assessments prior to your arrival. Additional information will be provided to accepted applicants.

What time do sessions begin and end?

Institute sessions begin at 11:00am, Eastern and conclude no later than 5:30pm, Eastern with wellness breaks during the day.
